Achieving High Page Rank without Ad Words

Pay per click (PPC) is an internet advertising model used to direct traffic to websites, where advertisers pay the publisher (or website owner) when the ad is clicked. With search engines advertisers bid on keywords or phrases which are relevant to their target market and the customer that they want to lure to their website. Here is how the control panel for pay per click advertising using Google Ad-Words looks like:

The amount that the company is prepared to bid will determine its position in the pay per click advertising area. The higher the bid the better the position. From the picture below it is clear that www.cellrepairservices.co.za has placed the highest bid for the keyword “cellphone repairs”:

Pay Per Click vs Natural Search Engine Results

So we all know now that the higher your bid the better your chances are of being placed at the top of advertising block. However, this is not the type of Search Engine Optimization that we want to achieve. Firstly, pay per click advertising can be very costly, up to R50 for a single click! This can easily accumulate to R1000 per day or more! There are very few businesses that can afford to have such an advertising budget. Instead we offer our clients the way to get to the first page of Google via ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ (un-paid) approach. There are a few things that need to be taken into consideration in order to achieve this. I will briefly touch on a few of them:

  • Keywords and Content – this is by far the most important aspect of search engine optimization. In order for Google to give a website a high ranking that website needs to provide value of information for the customer.
  • Backlinks – this is a link to a website from another website. Number of backlinks is used by search engines as one of the most important factors for determining websites search engine ranking, popularity and importance.
  • Social Media – is defined as interactive platform. In our case most widely used social media includes websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, YouTube etc.
  • Article Base – articles are a very important when you want to increase a websites popularity as this is viewed by the search engine as ‘quality content’. It tells the search engine that this website has quality information that it shares with its clients.
